In the latest edition of Bloomberg's Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman revealed that Apple is in the process of revamping both iOS and macOS, possibly with iOS 18 redesign.

Contrary to the dramatic visual overhaul seen in the transition from iOS 6 to iOS 7, Gurman suggests that the upcoming changes may be less radical.

He notes, "the company is indeed working on updating the design of iOS, possibly as early as this year, but it's unlikely to be a complete overhaul similar to visionOS." While iOS users can anticipate these updates with the arrival of iOS 18 this summer, the redesign efforts for macOS have only just commenced and are not expected to materialise until 2025 or 2026.

Since the debut of the Apple Vision Pro operating system, speculation has abounded regarding whether Apple would extend its design principles to its other platforms, incorporating features like 3D buttons and glassy background textures. However, Gurman clarifies that the visionOS aesthetic is tailored specifically to a platform centred around passthrough video, which doesn't align with the context of iOS.

Nevertheless, it's been some time since significant design changes were introduced to the iPhone and iPad. Any form of visual refresh would undoubtedly generate excitement, especially considering the anticipated inclusion of significant AI-powered functionalities.

Gurman has previously indicated that Apple views iOS 18 as a "bold and captivating" update, boasting major new features and design elements. The official unveiling of these next-generation operating systems is expected to take place at the annual WWDC conference in June. Following tradition, the iOS 18 redesign will likely enter beta testing over the summer before its public release in September.
