Apple is introducing an option for users to upgrade to ChatGPT Plus from under the Settings app, according to recent reports. The iOS 18.2 update will be available for iPhones during the first week of December, along with new Apple Intelligence features.
Upgrade to ChatGPT Plus in iOS 18
9to5Mac highlighted a notable addition in the latest developer beta of iOS 18.2 released on Monday, a new option in the iPhone Settings app that allows users to upgrade to a ChatGPT Plus account, providing direct access to sign up for OpenAI’s premium subscription plan that costs $20 a month.
This will result in OpenAI's revenue growth receiving a boost as users upgrade to ChatGPT Plus since the free variant of ChatGPT is limited.

However, it is unclear whether Apple will receive a cut from revenue generated by OpenAI's ChatGPT Plus subscriptions facilitated through the iPhone's Settings app.
Notably, free ChatGPT users won’t have access to OpenAI’s latest models and premium features such as Advanced Voice Mode.
How to upgrade to ChatGPT Plus in iOS 18
To upgrade to ChatGPT Plus:
- Navigate to iOS Settings.
- Select Apple Intelligence & Siri.
- Then, select ChatGPT, where you’ll find the option to "Upgrade to ChatGPT Plus."
