Rumours and reports swirling around the tech sphere have already begun painting a picture of what Apple's upcoming iPhone 16 might entail, promising a range of design changes for both the standard and 'Pro' models.

However, it seems the iPhone 17 is already making waves, particularly regarding its display technology. Fresh leaks originating from China hint at significant improvements in the display department compared to its predecessors, particularly in terms of anti-reflective properties and durability.

According to a recent post on Weibo by Instant Digital, Apple is already deep into the development of its next-gen iPhone 17, slated for release next year. The focal point of this advancement lies in the realm of display technology.

Instant Digital's sources suggest that the iPhone 17 will sport a cutting-edge display featuring a "super-hard anti-reflective layer" designed to be remarkably resistant to scratches, outperforming the Ceramic Shield glass found on the iPhone 15 series.

While suppliers in China have reportedly received the necessary components for this enhanced display, it's expected to take some time before the technology is fully realized. As a result, it's likely that this new display feature will debut exclusively with the iPhone 17 lineup, rather than making its way to the upcoming iPhone 16 set to launch later this year.

The move comes in response to criticisms of the iPhone 15's display, which, while robust and colour-accurate, falls short in handling reflections effectively. In comparison, Samsung's latest Galaxy S24 series boasts a Gorilla Glass Armor display that claims to reduce reflections by up to 75%, while also offering increased scratch resistance for improved durability.

While it remains unclear whether Apple will tap into Corning's display technology for the iPhone 17 lineup, it's worth noting that the company has a history of collaboration with Corning, as seen with the Ceramic Glass introduced with the iPhone 12 lineup.

Should Apple adopt Corning's anti-reflective glass technology, it's likely to be marketed under its own unique terminology. Nonetheless, this move signals Apple's commitment to staying competitive in the smartphone market, particularly against rivals like Samsung.

As the iPhone 17 is still over a year away from release, there's ample time for Apple to refine its plans and potentially introduce even more innovative features. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story as more information becomes available.
