As the country continues to tussle with widespread internet and social media disruptions, the minister of state for IT and telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja on Sunday urged businesses and freelancers to register their IPs for swift access to virtual private networks (VPNs).

Acknowledging the longstanding disruptions persistently affecting internet and VPN use nationwide, she noted that the government was well aware of the need to ensure smooth functionality of digital means of communication.

Efforts from the government's end to simplify the VPN registration process were also underway, she remarked, adding that the situation will remain intact until then.

“We strongly urge users to continue registering their IPs through the PTA website”, said the IT minister.

Her remarks came on the heels of a development negating the government's claims of uninterrupted internet services across the country using web monitoring tools.

Designed to measure network stability and monitor internet outages in real-time, the online tools' data showed that access to various social media services was unattainable for some and restricted for others.

Internet Outage Detection and Analysis (IODA), a tool developed by the Internet Intelligence Lab at the Georgia Institute of Technology, indicated that these disruptions remained intact for hours over the weekend.
