As 2024 progresses, the gaming world eagerly anticipates the period traditionally marked by the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), even though the event itself is no longer. Buzz is already building around Microsoft’s major gaming showcase for 2024, with expectations set high for titles like Gears 6. Emerging reports suggest more exciting revelations are on the horizon.
Xbox Games Showcase date
Tom Warren of The Verge, a well-known figure with inside knowledge of Microsoft, has shared that the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase is scheduled for Sunday, June 9. This date aligns with the timing of past Xbox events, which have often followed closely after Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest. Warren anticipates that this event will feature the debut of Gears 6, along with new insights and release information for titles like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Avowed, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
Adding to the anticipation, Warren speculates that the upcoming Call of Duty title will be unveiled during the Xbox showcase. This marks a shift from the typical late-summer Call of Duty revealed by Activision, reflecting Microsoft's recent acquisition of the franchise.
The range of potential showcases extends further, with Windows Central’s Jez Corden hinting at a reveal for State of Decay 3. There's also speculation about updates on long-awaited projects such as Fable and Perfect Dark, as well as possible previews of newer ventures like the Avalanche Studios’ Contraband and the rumoured Wu-Tang Clan RPG.
Last year’s Xbox showcase set a high bar, featuring titles like Starfield, Forza Motorsport, Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, Avowed, Fable, South of Midnight, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and Clockwork Revolution.
Given Microsoft’s history of ambitious E3-season presentations, expectations are high for this year's event. Meanwhile, rivals Sony and Nintendo are rumoured to be preparing new hardware, potentially intensifying the competition in the gaming industry this season.
