Google recently launched Android 15, and just a month later, the second developer preview of this update is already making its way to users, bringing several new functionalities.

One of the key updates in Android 15 pertains to satellite connectivity, a feature gaining traction in the smartphone world since its debut in the iPhone 14 series. Android 15 enhances the user experience for phones with this feature, offering clear indications of satellite network connections.

Users will see the satellite network's name on the top left of their screen, an icon on the top right, and a notification confirming satellite connectivity. Additionally, Android 15 enhances the functionality of SMS/MMS and RCS applications over satellite networks for message transmission.

Android 15 is also elevating the functionality of flip phones, such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Motorola Razr Plus, known for their compact cover screens. The update allows developers to optimise their apps for these smaller screens, expanding the utility and accessibility of apps on foldable devices.

Improvements in Near Field Communication (NFC) are another highlight. Android 15 enhances the smoothness of NFC interactions, particularly benefiting users of Google Wallet for contactless payments. With new NFC functionalities, issues like multiple attempts for NFC reader recognition should become less frequent.

The update doesn't stop there. Android 15 Developer Preview 2 also introduces refined PDF tools for better handling of password-protected files and easier file editing. Language-switching capabilities see improvements, aiding users who frequently alternate between languages. Furthermore, developers gain access to new tools for app optimisation, insights into app storage usage, and more.

Currently, Android 15 Developer Preview 2 is available for Google Pixel 6, 7, and 8 series, as well as Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet. However, as with the first preview, this version is mainly intended for developers and might not be ideal for general users. The broader audience might prefer to wait for the more stable beta release scheduled for April, observing Android 15's evolution from afar for now.
