They're also incredibly impressive creations. I have my eye on the $380 Mountain Fortress, which would complement my Lion Knight's Castle perfectly, the $50 Snack Shack that brings back memories of a beloved shrimp truck in Hawaii, and the $320 Parisian Street with its timeless Haussmann architecture and charming storefronts, as reported by The Verge.
While fan-designed sets have been put on sale by Lego before, there are significant differences this time. Previously, fan ideas were either adapted by The Lego Group or crowdfunded from previous Lego Ideas submissions. The Lego BrickLink Designer Program Series 1 marks the first time that anyone has been able to design a Lego set that Lego will simply produce.
The developers plan to produce more fan-designed sets than ever before. While previous fan creations were limited to 10,000 copies or fewer, Lego initially stated it would produce up to 20,000 of this batch.
However, the company has now increased the limit to 30,000. This may decrease the potential value for collectors compared to previous batches, most of which have already doubled in value, but it could also result in fewer scalpers.
Additionally, this means the fan designers of the largest sets could potentially earn royalties of approximately half a million dollars. Just think about that.
