The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and all the Provincial Revenue Authorities have agreed to a new regulation obliging taxpayers registered in oil and gas (exploration and production) firms and Microfinance banks to file their sales tax returns on Single Sales Tax Return (SSTR).
The slight change in the tax filing process is likely introduced to foster a taxation ecosystem where taxpayers directly submit their tax returns to the concerned authority.
That said, firms belonging to the aforementioned sectors will now file their taxes on SSTR, FBR's official portal for tax filing, for tax returns of November 2024 due in December 2024 and onwards, according to ProPakistani.
With the SSTR portal expanding to two more crucial sectors, the FBR informed all provinces in this regard, bringing it to the attention of all stakeholders that the Single Sales Tax Return is now accessible through the Single Portal i.e. www.iris.fbr.gov.pk.
The shift to the SSTR portal follows the government's tax regulatory body making the single sales tax returns portal accessible for the telecom sector through the Single Sales Tax Portal, starting with tax liabilities of January 2024 due in February 2024.
The regulatory authority has enhanced the sales tax filing process with the development of a Single Sales Tax Portal in collaboration with all Provincial Sales Tax Authorities, according to the FBR’s instructions in line with the government's willingness to facilitate taxpayers, ensure an easier business handling, and reduce compliance costs.
