Microsoft has announced an upgraded standalone version named Office 2024 for both Mac and PC users. The Office 2024 will serve as an alternative the subscription-based Microsoft 365 for users who prefer a one-time purchase.

Microsoft Office 2024 features

The upgraded version includes more enhanced Microsoft apps, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook.

Notably, these apps come as “locked-in-time" versions, meaning they won't receive any new feature updates like their Microsoft 365 app.

With Office 2024, Microsoft Excel will give a faster performance, especially when working with multiple open workbooks.

Within the PowerPoint app, a new feature named "cameo" is integrated which lets users add a live camera feed directly into slides. Another new feature is the "recording studio" which is used for capturing narration, animations, and transitions.

Additionally, on Outlook for Mac, Microsoft has added customisable swipe gestures, designed to enhance email management with Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad. On OneNote, Mac users can get an enhanced inking experience, including a full-screen pen-focused view.

Microsoft has released two different tiers for Office 2024. The Office Home 2024 is priced at $149.99, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.

However, the Office Home & Business 2024 costs $249.99 and includes Outlook and other commercial use rights. The new Microsoft Office 2024 is compatible with macOS Ventura, macOS Sonoma, and macOS Sequoia.
