MS Paint receives AI-powered features for Windows 11 users

Generative Fill is only available on Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs, users will be required to sign in with their Microsoft account to access it

Microsoft unveiled new preview features for Windows Insiders on Wednesday, including a significant artificial intelligence (AI) update to the MS Paint app. MS Paint has received a new Generative Fill feature that uses AI to generate things based on a text prompt.

Moreover, the company has introduced a Generative Erase feature along with updates to Cocreator and Image Creator. However, these features are currently not available to general Windows 11 users.

How to use MS Paint's new AI features

  1. If you want to use the feature, use the Selection tool in the Paint toolbar and select an area where they need the object to be added. After selecting, you will now see a small menu pop up at the bottom of the selected area.
  2. By selecting Generative Fill, you can open a small text field, where you can give a prompt on what you need to see. Once done, tap on Create to generate the object.

It is important to important that Generative Fill is currently only available on Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs and users will be required to sign in with their Microsoft account to access it.

Meanwhile, Microsoft is integrating a Generative Erase feature into MS Paint. This tool can be selected while using the eraser, and it removes an object from an image while adding elements to blend the area with the rest of the background.
