The Last of Us, a multiplayer game which was part of the PlayStation 5 (PS5) project, has been cancelled.
The dismissal of the game’s development was confirmed by Naughty Dog, the developer, on Thursday to Reuters.
The decision has been made following a series of reports of delay in its development earlier this year.

Why The Last of Us has been cancelled
The developer attributed this retreat to the possibility of other projects being affected because of this, saying that it was an “incredibly difficult decision” to make.
It remarked that it would have meant becoming "a solely live service games studio" had it been to keep going with The Last of Us Online.
The studio would "continue to focus on single-player narrative games that have defined Naughty Dog's heritage," maintained an official statement released by the developers.
We wanted to concentrate on "more than one ambitious, brand new single-player game" currently in development instead, the developers added.
Naughty Dog, the Sony-owned game developer, is a competent contender in the gaming industry for having produced some critically lauded titles for PS with the Uncharted and The Last of Us series.
Although both games were brought with multiplayer modes, the Last of Us Online was billed as a live service game.
Requiring toiling efforts to maintain, these online titles have the potential to indulge players for months or years as they observe regular post-launch updates and new content.
As well as the unannounced titles it said it was working on, Naughty Dog is due to release a remastered version of The Last of Us: Part 2 next month.
The TV adaptation of the first game, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, has just been nominated for three Golden Globes.
