Since their release alongside the iPhone 7, AirPods have arguably become the most popular wireless headphones around the world. Apple has regularly upgraded the AirPods, enhancing the user experience, although the exterior has remained largely the same.

Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has just revealed that the next generation of AirPods will feature a camera to better pair with the Vision Pro and spatial computers.

"New IR Camera-Equipped AirPods to Enhance User-Device Interaction and Strengthen Apple’s Spatial Audio/Computing."

These next-generation wearables are said to feature a camera setup similar to the iPhone’s Face ID receivers. The infrared sensor will help provide a more enhanced video experience by producing a spatial audio experience.

The device could also feature environmental detectors, potentially allowing users to interact with air gestures rather than having to touch their AirPods.

That being said, there’s no indication of whether the hardware design will see any changes as well.
