Following the launch of the iPhone 16 series, Apple is now preparing for another major event in October, focusing on extending its Mac lineup, with a redesigned Mac mini and an updated iMac.

Apple last updated the Apple TV model with a major hardware upgrade in 2022, introducing a new, smaller design, USB-C in the Siri remote, and since then, users have been anticipating a new Apple TV model.

While there were rumours that Apple TV might get a refresh in the first half of this year it didn’t happen, leaving Apple TV enthusiasts to wait a while more.

However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently said: “While the company has been working on an update to the Apple TV set-top box for as early as this year, no new model has come to fruition and stable inventory of the device suggests a new version isn’t on the immediate horizon.”

This indicates that it is still unclear when the next Apple TV will be announced. However, to recall, previous Apple TV models were announced as follows:

  • Third-generation Apple TV 4K: October 2022
  • Second-generation Apple TV 4K: April 2021
  • First-generation Apple TV 4K: September 2017
  • Apple TV HD: September 2015
  • Third-generation Apple TV: March 2012

New Apple TV features (expected)

While there is no new TV model in working, let’s get a roundup of all previous rumours related to it.

With the next generation Apple TV, Apple might integrate Apple Intelligence features for the first time. Additionally, Apple is also rumoured to implement a faster processor than the current A15 Bionic chip, the A18 chip recently integrated on the iPhone 16 series.

Gurman recently reported that Apple might consider adding a built-in camera in the upcoming TV model. Earlier, with tvOS 17, Apple added a FaceTime app to the TV, letting users have video calling using the rear camera on a connected iPhone or iPad. With a built-in camera, users would no longer need to rely on an external device for video calling on TV.

Alongside these features, Apple could also make the new TV model capable of supporting high-end games that are currently accessible on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

While in the US, the current Apple TV with 64GB or 128GB of storage is available for $129 and $149, respectively Apple’s new TV device could have a starting price of $100.
