The Nintendo Switch 2 has been under speculation for several months now. Recently, numerous rumours have surfaced, indicating its imminent launch. The new console is expected to feature significant design upgrades, including an enlarged display, larger controllers, and several enhancements, all promising an enhanced user experience.

Nintendo Switch 2 design specs

According to 91mobiles and OnLeaks, the highly anticipated Switch 2 is expected to offer backward compatibility with existing Switch titles, as evidenced by the placement of the game card slot and buttons.

It will also include a 3.5mm headphone jack, making it ideal for players who prefer wired headphones, and a USB Type-C port for faster charging. This design will address common charging-related issues, especially when the device is used in tabletop mode.

Additionally, the forthcoming Switch 2 is likely to feature a sensor on the top, which is speculated to be an ambient light sensor designed to adjust the display brightness according to the surrounding environment.

The bottom of the console showcases a minimalist design, featuring a central dock with guide pins on each side, as well as two speaker openings. A significant improvement is the upgraded "U" kickstand at the rear, offering greater stability compared to the Switch OLED’s kickstand, which was already an improvement over the original version.

Joy-Con updates

The Joy-Cons are expected to maintain the same layout but with a marginally larger design. They will feature the familiar "+" and "-" buttons, D-Pad, and analogue sticks, along with a new button above the "Home" button on the right Joy-Con. A new trigger button on the rear will simplify the process of detaching the controllers.

Larger display

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to feature an enlarged 8.4-inch display, compared to the 7-inch screen on the Switch OLED. This upgrade is expected to significantly enhance the handheld gaming experience.

Nintendo Switch 2 launch date
