OpenAI released its new artificial intelligence (AI) model, Sora, on Monday. This new text-to-video AI tool is a part of the company’s expansion of its multimodal AI technologies.
Since the launch of its AI chatbot ChatGPT in 2022, the AIU tech giant has achieved remarkable success, attracting 200 million weekly active users globally, solidifying its position as a leader in AI innovation.

In a blog post, the company stated: “We're working on tailored pricing for different types of users, which we plan to make available early next year."
The AI model, Sora, can create videos from text. It was first introduced in February, but its access was limited to testers in its research preview phase. However, it is now available to ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Pro users as Sora Turbo without any additional cost.
Using Sora, users can generate videos up to 1080p resolution, up to 20 seconds long, and in widescreen, vertical, or square aspect ratios, the company noted.
The new tool aims to compete with text-to-video tools from Meta and Alphabet's Google. Notably, it would not yet be available in EU countries, including Switzerland and the UK.
Additionally, to prevent Sora’s misuse, OpenAI would block the creation and uploading of content containing forms of abuse, such as child sexual abuse materials and other deepfakes.
