Oppo has introduced new artificial intelligence (AI) features to its ColorOS operating system. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer revealed these enhancements during an AI strategy conference held on Monday, unveiling a lineup of devices set to receive the updates initially.

AI features of ColorOS update

The AI-powered functionalities are part of the ColorOS New Year Edition update in China and will be rolled out to both Oppo and OnePlus devices. It remains unclear whether these features will also be extended to the global version of the OS.

According to Gadgets360, the company announced the new features through several Weibo posts, though many had already been disclosed by various reports earlier this month. Some of these features bear similarities to those found in the Google Pixel 8 series and Samsung Galaxy S24 series, such as the Galaxy AI. According to Oppo, the ColorOS update will introduce over 100 AI features to compatible devices.

ColorOS update brings an AI Deletion feature for images, similar to the magic eraser on the Pixel 8 series. This allows users to mark specific areas in a picture for automatic detection and removal of unwanted objects or background elements. Additionally, the OS now includes an AI Call Summary feature, enabling users to initiate "smart consumption" during a call, with the AI listening to conversations and providing a summary afterwards.

Special attention has been given to Xiaobu, the voice assistant in ColorOS for China, which has received multiple AI enhancements. Using generative AI, Xiaobu's dialogues and speech capabilities have been enhanced for a more realistic interaction.

The assistant also gains new skills to perform complex tasks and a wider range of general functions. Xiaobu Photo Studio and AI Greeting Cards are among the new features introduced, allowing users to create AI-generated images and personalised greeting cards, respectively.

These AI features will debut on 16 Oppo and OnePlus smartphones through the ColorOS update, initially limited to devices in China. This includes models like the Oppo Find X7 series, Reno 11 series, OnePlus 12, Find X6 series, Reno 10 series, Find N3 series, and OnePlus Ace series.
