With the general public reeling from a myriad of digital restrictions imposed to prevent planned protests of a key political party, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and other major social media platforms are reportedly under the grip of disruptions across Pakistan.

Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook down in Pakistan

The outage has hit the masses as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally advances towards Islamabad, Pakistan.

Citing a Karachi citizen venting off frustration over the curtailed access to internet and social media platforms, The Express Tribune reported that the internet slowdown affected nominal tasks like sharing media on WhatsApp nearly impossible.

"It’s super frustrating and slows everything down," said the 27-year old Karachiite.

Leveraging restricted, sluggish internet service, netizens across the country were unable to use social media and communication platforms.

On the sidelines of nationwide internet slowdowns, internet users observed issues while accessing the aforesaid platforms, according to data showed by Downdetector, an outage tracking service.

The currently active interruptions came to authenticate the government's planned schedule to disrupt internet services in areas considered sensitive in light of security concerns linked to the ongoing political turmoil in the country.
