The federal government of Pakistan has publicised plans to give free electric bikes to the top 120 students of the Federal Board, marking a major step toward boosting electric vehicles (EVs), along with sustainable transportation.
During the fourth meeting on the Electric Vehicles Policy, chaired by Federal Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain, it was decided to award electric bikes to the top 120 students.
In addition, the meeting reviewed progress on setting up 40 EV charging stations along motorways and national highways. This initiative aims to facilitate long-distance travel for EV owners and encourage wider adoption.
During the session, the minister highlighted the importance of equipping all petrol pumps in the capital with EV charging stations. Moreover, the government plans to give 39,000 electric bikes and 1,900 electric rickshaws to the public on easy loans, ensuring accessibility and affordability in Pakistan.
The entire process will be digitised to ensure transparency, aligning with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision of transforming Islamabad into a model city. The Federal Minister confirmed that the Electric Vehicles Policy will be officially introduced soon.
These initiatives are set to promote sustainable urban development while encouraging the adoption of environmentally friendly transportation in Pakistan.
