Pokémon Go, the augmented reality mobile game that took the world by storm upon its release in 2016, is set to receive a major overhaul dubbed the “Rediscover Go” campaign. As the game approaches its eighth anniversary this July, developer Niantic has announced significant updates aimed at revitalising the gameplay experience.
The game, which allows players to explore real-world locations to catch virtual Pokemon creatures, has remained popular over the years, reaching its peak during the pandemic lockdowns in 2020. Despite its longevity, Niantic is committed to keeping the experience fresh and engaging for players with the upcoming overhaul.
The Rediscover Go update promises a host of changes, including enhancements to the in-game map, encounter screens, battle screens, and more. These updates will be tailored to the player’s location, providing a more dynamic experience.
One of the key features of the update is the “Rediscover Kanto” event, scheduled to arrive on April 22. This event will allow players to encounter Pokemon first discovered in the Kanto region, including classics like Bulbasaur, Vileplume, and Butterflies. Additionally, a new version of the Go Snapshot feature will be introduced on May 7, allowing players to add AR Pokemon to their photos with improved technology.
The overhaul also includes updates to the avatar customisation menu and the Style Shop, offering players more options than ever before to personalise their in-game experience. Furthermore, the Snapshot feature will now support capturing pictures of up to three Pokemon at a time, adding to the creative possibilities for players.
