Pakistan has been experiencing an unidentified internet outage for several weeks now. This outage severely affected online businesses, leading to unfortunate consequences and raising serious concerns over the entire issue.

Now, after a long wait, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) finally addressed the woes, soothing the frayed nerves of users.

It revealed the reason behind the constant internet disruption and degradation of services to the general public: there is an issue among two of seven international submarine cables, including the AAE-1 cable and the SMW 4 cable, that associate Pakistan with other countries.

The AAE-1 cable encountered a 250G outage because of redirects between Qatar and neighbouring country Iran. Meanwhile, the SMW 4 cable (1.5T) adequately debilitated all the services in Karachi.

However, workers started to fix this issue and constantly tried to get out of it under the surveillance of the PTA to quickly minimise its impact.

Additionally, operators are efficiently re-directing traffic over different cables to lessen the effect but the ongoing internet outage is likely to be fixed by August 17 all across the country.
