The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has officially published the Framework for Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) across the country.

The telecommunication authority’s decision comes as a result of careful consultation with the relevant stakeholders which aims to support the introduction of new services and spectrum utilisation, including the promotion of emerging wireless technologies.

Wireless Local Area Network framework

Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) is a wireless computer network that links two or more devices using wireless communication to form a local area network.

This framework will provide regulatory guidelines to the industry and designate specific unlicensed frequency bands such as the 2.4 Gigahertz (GHz), 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands, for WLAN usage.

Earlier in May this year, PTA announced a 6 GHz spectrum band for unlicensed operation for Radio Local Area Network (RLAN) across the country.

With these compliant devices, users will get an improved wireless experience, better coverage, and connectivity at homes, offices, and other public places.

PTA’s initiative will benefit both local manufacturers and importers of WLAN equipment by providing clear technical guidelines and facilitating the import and distribution of these devices in the country.

The introduction of the WLAN framework showcases the PTA's commitment to enhancing digital access and promoting the adoption of modern technologies.
