Amid the ongoing, unaddressed internet slowdown causing nationwide disruption to services, flow of information, and business operations that rely heavily on sound internet connection, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) gave an update on the submarine cable fault.
Attributing the persistently sluggish internet in Pakistan to the impaired submarine cables, PTA stated that the two faulty cables were "(SMW4, AAE-1) of the seven international submarine cables connecting Pakistan internationally."
It was also learned that the SMW-4 submarine cable is expected to be repaired by early October 2024, whereas the other submarine cable, namely AAE-1, has reportedly been fixed.

The development indicates that the repaired cable will soon result in a slightly improved internet service in the county.
Previously, the national telecom regulator provided contradictory reasons regarding what prompted the internet outage in the country and further aggravated it, which has been keeping the nation off the internet grid for almost a month now.
During a hearing earlier this week at the Islamabad High Court (IHC), the PTA blamed another damaged submarine cable for worsening the internet crisis in Pakistan, a claim which was refuted by a PTA spokesperson Gadinsider spoke to.
