In an effort to solidify every ordinary user's privacy, the Meta-owned social media platform Threads has launched quote controls feature globally.

With the latest Threads feature out in the open, users can now choose who can quote their posts.

Threads latest feature

The release of quote controls feature on the Instagram subsidiary platform appears to be developing upon an existing content privacy feature wherein Threads users can decide who can reply to their posts. The same sort of reply controls are offered by rival parties like X (formerly Twitter) and Bluesky.

The latest Threads feature was announced by the Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri who is at the helm of both Threads and Instagram — Meta's most prominent social media services after Facebook and WhatsApp. However, plans were also officially divulged a month ago by the company.

“I hope this will help keep Threads a more positive place and give people more control over their experience,” Adam Mosseri wrote.

Making it the newest feature to be offered in the social media sphere is the fact that the feature was reportedly not available on Threads' desktop web browser by May 4, Saturday, whereas, its presence on the mobile version was observed.

The Quote controls feature has been reported to be coupled with the reply controls under one single dropdown menu, with the following options being available on the list.

  • Anyone
  • Profiles you follow
  • Mentioned only

Considering the mischievous urge of almost every other social media user to defame or mock someone's content, Quote controls feature should be sufficient to minimise the possibility of a random post turning the focal point for a heated debate between users.
