Roblox introduces child safety measures to protect users under 13

Roblox, one of the most popular gaming platforms among preteens has announced a few significant safety measures to protect vulnerable users in a growing complicated digital realm amid immense criticism for insufficient child security measures.

Recently, parents have mounted concerns for the explicit content, as young players are currently being exposed to several risk factors.

Roblox improves safety for younger players 

The platform has aimed to limit users under 13 from accessing certain high-risk experiences on an extensively used gaming platform.

It is certainly a significant step to develop a safer environment by restricting exposure to inappropriate content, while still offering quality content with several substantial options to enjoy the creative aspects of games.

From 2025, concerned parents will prevent children under the age of 13 from accessing “unrated experiences” by default. Moreover, developers will be required to complete a questionnaire to classify the categories in the Creator Hub to label it either “All Ages” or “9+.” 

Roblox has strictly restricted gambling in these categories, while allowing fun-filled content and providing a deadline for creators to submit the classifications by December 3. 

Roblox has limited social hangouts and free-form 2D creation experiences for the players under 13 to restrict exposure to irrelevant communication among players by letting unlimited chatting and drawing, which has endangered players' safety and will be effective from November 18. 

Roblox ensured that players under 13 can still access an extensive array of intriguing options of age-appropriate content including role-playing games, designing games, and more. 

The highly popular gaming platform is currently testing an age verification system for players over 13, that involves the submission of government-issued IDs. While players under 13 are required to have parental permission for particular chat features and users under 9 will need consent for specific content experiences to develop a safer environment for youth.
