Samsung is keeping details regarding One UI 7, its forthcoming Android-based interface, largely confidential. However, leaks have hinted at new icons and minor interface adjustments.
Moreover, details surfacing on Samsung’s UK website revealed a more significant change, suggesting the discontinuation of DeX for Windows.
For those unfamiliar, DeX allows Galaxy phone owners to project their handset’s screen onto a personal computer (PC) window. The feature, known as "Desktop eXperience", enables users to transfer files between devices, offering a more desktop-like experience directly from the phone. It’s a useful tool for those seeking greater functionality from their mobile devices.
"The DeX for PC on Windows OS will end support from the One UI 7 version. We encourage customers to connect mobile phones and PC through the Link to Windows feature," stated a footnote on Samsung’s DeX page.
Although the change may not be surprising, it marks a significant shift for DeX users on Windows.
The South Korean tech giant’s suggestion to eliminate DeX for Windows in favour of Link to Windows is a rational decision, considering that Link to Windows is already embedded within the Windows environment and supports a range of devices beyond just Samsung’s offerings.
