Samsung Galaxy S25 series is set to go official at the start of next year with Android 15 and Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. However, adding to the rumour mill, recently it was suggested that the Galaxy S24’s successor will likely come with support for Android's A/B over-the-air (OTA) update system.

These seamless updates were first introduced by Google back in 2016 with devices running Chrome OS and since then have been available on the Pixel devices. However, Samsung never rushed to implement this technology in its devices before.

A/B system updates on Galaxy S25 series

Taking to (formerly Twitter), tipster @chunvn8888 claimed that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 series will support A/B system updates.

The update process is expected to utilise a dual-partition system, where the inactive "B" partition hosts the installation while the active "A" partition continues to run the smartphone's system.

The A/B system enables seamless updates, allowing users to continue using their device throughout the process, with only a brief reboot required to switch to the updated partition. Users also have a choice of reattempting to install the software update.

Moreover, according to Android, the A/B system also eliminates the requirement for sufficient system storage to download updates, as they are instead streamed directly to the device.
