Samsung has long been celebrated for equipping its flagship Galaxy models with industry-leading OLED displays. The Galaxy S24 series, released in early 2024, featured Samsung’s M13 OLED panel, showcasing substantial improvements in brightness and efficiency. However, Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra may fall short of some competitors in display technology.
Reports from Korea’s ET News suggest that Samsung will continue using the M13 OLED panel for the Galaxy S25 series, including the Ultra model, rather than adopting the newer M14 panel used in Google’s Pixel 9 Pro and Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro. The M14 panel boasts 20-30% better efficiency, a longer lifespan, and enhanced brightness, reaching up to 3,000 nits — in comparison to the S24 Ultra’s peak brightness of 2,600 nits.

According to Display Supply Chain Consultants CEO Ross Young, Apple and Samsung are shifting from annual OLED upgrades to updates every two years, due to the high performance of current panels and a saturated smartphone market.
While the Galaxy S25 Ultra may miss out on the M14 panel’s benefits, it will feature Corning’s new Gorilla Armor cover glass. This innovative glass reduces reflections by up to 75%, offers impressive scratch resistance, and enhances durability, making the S25 Ultra’s display a unique experience despite lacking the latest OLED panel. Samsung currently has exclusive access to this cover glass, providing it with an edge in durability over other devices.
