The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Wednesay announced that the centrak bank will remain closed from for three days from June 17 to June 19, 2024 on account of Eid-ul-Adha — which will be celebrated on Monday as the Zilhaj moon was sighted in Pakistan on June 7.
The public holidays span from Monday to Wednesday, allowing employees and the public to partake in the celebrations.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the "Festival of Sacrifice," is one of the most significant holidays, commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. It is marked by special prayers, feasts, and charitable activities, reflecting the spirit of sacrifice and community.
The closure of the central bank will temporarily halt all banking operations, including clearance and settlement services, impacting financial transactions across the country. Customers are advised to plan their banking activities accordingly and utilise digital banking services where possible to mitigate any inconvenience.
The federal government officially announced a three-day holiday for Eid-ul-Adha on Monday, following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's approval of the cabinet division's proposal.
The Eid holidays will commence on Monday, June 17, and end on Wednesday, June 19. Including the preceding weekend, this creates a five-day holiday period.
