Sindh Information and Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon has announced the provincial government’s plans to launch a bullet train service from Karachi to Sukkur during a press conference in Karachi, aiming to facilitate travellers and improve transportation infrastructure in the province.

Memon highlighted Pakistan’s vast investment opportunities and mentioned that multiple government departments engage in dialogue with foreign investors to attract capital.

He further underscored the significance of enhancing transportation in Karachi, the metropolitan hub, describing the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) as a top priority for the provincial government.

Memon stated: "The Sindh government is planning to run a bullet train from Karachi to Sukkur," and the project is set to launch in two phases, he added.

Affordable transport and employment opportunities

In addition to the bullet train, Memon revealed the government's plans to establish a manufacturing plant in Karachi to produce affordable buses for local citizens. This progressive initiative is likely to provide multiple job opportunities and offer affordable transportation options for the population.

While discussing foreign investments, the minister shared that Sindh has attracted the highest foreign investment in Pakistan. Memon mentioned the recent meeting held between foreign investors and the Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah while stressing the need to generate employment opportunities for youth.

Memon has estimated to create almost 50,000 job opportunities In the medical sector, supported by an expected $1 billion investment and underscored the commitment to further investments in the Dhabeji Foreign Economic Zone. 

He further pointed to Thar as a significant region for low-cost electricity generation, highlighting its vast region’s coal as an invaluable resource for Pakistan’s energy needs.
