Snapchat is set to integrate a new feature—improved location sharing—into Family Centre, its parental controls hub. The update will allow parents to receive an alert when their teen departs from or arrives at designated locations from within the app's Family Centre.

Earlier, parents had to search their teen on Snap Map or go to their profile to view where they were; this new update is set to make it easier for parents to keep track as they can see their child’s location directly within Family Centre.

In a blog post, Snapchat said: “We’re adding travel notifications to Family Center to give parents more peace of mind knowing their teen has arrived at class, left sports practice on time, or even returned home after a night with friends.”

Moreover, parents will be able to view who their teen shares their location with using Snapchat. Along with this, the platform is going to begin nudging users who select to share their location with all of their friends on the app to review who they are sharing their location with.

Notably, Snapchat has occasionally upgraded its app with additional features to help parents protect their teens. However, parents may not even know that these tools exist.

Previously, Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel unveiled that 20 million teenagers use Snapchat in the United States (US) and that only around 200,000 parents use its Family Centre supervision controls.
