Originally released for the ZX Spectrum in 1985, Starquake is an action-adventure platform game designed, written, and programmed by Stephen Crow.

Developed and published by Bubble Bus Software, the game gained popularity and was subsequently ported to various platforms, including the Commodore 64, MSX, Amstrad CPC, Atari 8-bit family, Tatung Einstein, BBC Micro, IBM compatibles, and Atari ST.

Starquake main characters

Starquake focuses on a single main character, the playable protagonist named BLOB. As a Bio-Logically Operated Being, BLOB embarks on a mission to prevent the rogue planet's implosion by replacing nine core pieces.

BLOB's advanced mechanics, including running, flying on hover platforms, building temporary platforms, and utilising teleportation booths, set it apart from other platformers of its time.

Starquake titles

Despite Starquake's success, it did not evolve into a series or spawn sequels. Although Stephen Crow began work on a sequel titled Starquake II, the project was never completed or released. Mark R. Jones discovered files related to Starquake II in 2014, providing insight into the unfinished graphics work. The preserved version of Starquake II can be found on Atarimania.

While not as extravagant as immortality or enhanced weaponry cheats, these codes provide a way for players to revisit specific points in the game.
