As Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League approaches its release, developer Rocksteady has announced that the game's post-launch downloadable content (DLC) will introduce the iconic DC villain Joker as a playable character.
The announcement was made in the third episode of the Suicide Squad Insider developer diary series, where Rocksteady outlined its plans for delivering free post-launch seasonal content.
Rocksteady disclosed that each post-launch season would consist of two episodes, focusing on a theme related to a DC villain. The first season, launching in March, will enable players to unlock the Joker as a playable character.

The Joker in this version comes from an alternate universe, referred to as Elseworld, and is depicted as a younger, more inexperienced version. This Joker will have unique combat and traversal gameplay systems and distinct weapons.
The Elseworld Joker, maintaining the traditional appearance of the character with a purple suit, green hair, and face makeup, comes with a rocket-powered umbrella for traversal.
The umbrella can be used to propel the Joker into the air, glide around, and even flip down to grind along buildings like a skateboard. The gameplay footage shown in the video reveals the Joker gliding around the map and engaging enemies using melee weapons and firearms.
Rocksteady intends to expand the roster of playable DC characters over time, each with unique move sets for combat and traversal. Post-launch content will not be locked behind a Battle Pass system and will be provided directly into the game with the launch of a new season.

The DLC will bring new environments, challenges, missions, gear, and more at no additional cost to players who have purchased the main game.
In addition to character additions, Rocksteady shared details on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League's multiplayer features, such as squad-based leaderboards and emotes. The game, set to release on February 2, will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.
While Rocksteady promises extensive free post-launch content, the live-service direction of the game has faced criticism, particularly from fans who expected a more narrative-focused single-player experience similar to Rocksteady's previous titles in the Arkham series. The gameplay reveal in February 2023 drew backlash for its looter shooter elements.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League lets players control DC supervillains — Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and King Shark — allowing for solo play or up to four-player co-op as they face brainwashed and rogue members of the Justice League.
