T-Mobile announced that it has set a new world record for 5G upload speeds during a recent test at the SoFi Stadium in California.

Working as partners with Ericsson and Qualcomm, the US-based mobile carrier managed to achieve peak upload speeds of 2.2Gbps on its 5G network, which it claimed to be the fastest 5G upload speed ever recorded in the world.

Reportedly, T-Mobile achieved this landmark by utilising the emerging technology called 5G DC.

5G DC for internet speed

5G Dual Connectivity (DC) combines two types of 5G spectrums to deliver faster and more reliable upload speeds. Previously, limited to a smaller allocation, the Un-carrier has now increased its utilisation of mmWave spectrum for uploads to 60%, enhancing overall performance.

“This change will be especially helpful for faster uploads and real-time connectivity at crowded events like football games, concerts, and live broadcasts,” the company stated.

As the demand for uploading large files, streaming live videos, and sharing high-quality photos grows, T-Mobile’s test reveals a new system that providers can use to offer the best mobile experiences for their customers and businesses at crowded events.

The upload speed test demonstrates the company's efforts to optimise 5G DC performance in public gatherings, utilising Qualcomm's Snapdragon X80 5G modem and Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.
