T-Mobile is gearing up to launch its Starlink-powered messaging service, designed to improve connectivity in areas with limited or no cell coverage. The service aims to use satellite technology to connect users across 500,000 square miles in the United States (US).

While the official launch is set for 2025, the beta phase is already rolling out to select users, promising free text messaging during the trial.

What does beta offer?

The Starlink messaging beta focuses on solving connectivity challenges in rural and remote areas. Subscribers with compatible devices will be able to send and receive text messages, even in locations where traditional cell signals fail.

T-Mobile has opened its registration portal for the trial, and some lucky users are already receiving invites to test the service.

On Android and iOS devices, a new “Satellite networks” option has appeared in the settings menu, particularly on Samsung phones.

This page will eventually display details about the messaging plan once the service is live. If you see this option, you’ve likely been selected for the beta.

What’s next for T-Mobile’s Starlink service?

The beta phase starts with text messaging, with plans to add voice and data services later. The Starlink-powered service is free for postpaid voice customers during this trial, and T-Mobile assures that most modern smartphones will work with the technology.

Other major players are also diving into satellite connectivity. AT&T is working with AST SpaceMobile, and Verizon has partnered with Amazon’s Project Kuiper. Still, T-Mobile’s Starlink messaging beta stands out as an early attempt to bridge the connectivity gap.
