As the country is making strides to approach the launch of 5G technology, telecom operators across Pakistan have set forth some demands ahead of the rollout of the new technology.

Besides an efficient spectrum in the 2600 band crucial for the launch of 5G in the country, the most notable prerequisites from telecom operators include local currency payments, staggered payment plans, and lower tax rates.

Citing sources, ProPakistani reported that the companies concerned are looking forward to recommendations from National Economic Research Associates Inc. (NERA), a US-based consultancy firm hired by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to assist the development of a policy framework for 5G spectrum allocation.

The publication reported that these recommendations are essential to shape the country’s 5G strategy, laying the foundations for growth and innovation in the telecom sector in future.

The telecom regulator consulting NERA shows its commitment to bringing the release of 5G in Pakistan on par with global standards.

The international Economic consulting firm's role is to evaluate the telecom sector’s health, a key step towards fetching further investment into the spectrum.

NERA will also offer policy recommendations to revamp the financial posture of the sector to make it fulfil the requirements for the spectrum auctions and the 5G rollout.
