With the iOS 18 launch, Apple is set to introduce various new features including writing tools, the improved Siri, Apple Intelligence in Mail, and some upgrades to Photos that are already available for testing.

However, the tech giant is also upgrading one of the popular apps, Apple Mail. The Mail app is used to view and send emails, reply to messages, and manage inboxes.

Gadinsider has brought you the list of new features in Apple Mail with the iOS 18 release.

Categorisation

The Apple Mail app with the iOS 18 upgrade would sort emails into various categories. Personal conversations and time-sensitive emails would fall into the Primary category. Emails including receipts and order confirmations would be sorted into Transactions.

Similarly, newsletters and social media notifications would get sorted into Updates, whereas ads and marketing would get sorted into Promotions.

Digest View

In iOS 18, the Mail app would group all emails by a specific sender. For instance, if a user clicks on an email from a business, they would be able to see all of the emails from that business, making it easier to find important details from the past.

Highlighting unread emails

Now, users would be able to differentiate between new and old emails. Unread emails would appear at the top, whereas older emails would stay at the bottom.

Smart Reply

Apple Intelligence introduces a new feature in the Mail app called Smart Reply. When a user replies to a new email and uses one of the Apple Intelligence prompts above the keyboard, it’ll generate a response to the email considering all important points of the email.

Writing Tools

With Writing Tools, users can ask Apple Intelligence to help them make an email sound friendly or professional, according to their needs. It can also generate key points from the text, proofread it, or completely rewrite it.

Email summaries

Now, the iPhone Mail app would be able to provide quick summaries of emails immediately from the list view, saving users’ time and preventing them from opening every single email.

Messages placement

Mostly, users prioritise time-sensitive emails such as an event invite, a meeting being cancelled, or a job interview call. With iOS 18, the Mail app would place such messages at the top.
