Vanishing posts on social media platforms are convenient if you have a habit of removing them through third-party tools or the context of those posts is short-lived.

Previously, Threads said that it is checking ephemeral posts as an internal prototype. However, currently, the company said that it is checking posts that vanish within 24 hours with a restricted number of users on the social media platform.

While Meta's latest social media platform didn’t give any official statement. According to a spokesperson, this is a new and casual method to share on Threads.

When you tap on the reply button, you can view the time remaining, after which the post will be deleted. Threads also display a banner on top of the post suggesting that the Threads and all replies will vanish when the time ends.

While the banner don’t define anything about quoted replies. It has been noticed that quoted posts have a timer relatable to the original post and will be removed after the timer ends.

Posts with a 24-hour expiry could help creators who need to share an off-brand or off-topic post once in a while. Moreover, they could be useful for folks who want to comment on live events that is likely to be irrelevant once the event is over.

If Threads makes ephemeral posts globally available, it might be one of the only social media platforms among its rivals, such as X (formerly Twitter), Bluesky, and Mastodon.
