Meta-owned Instagram's integral app Thread is making its "trending now" feature across the US. The trending topics are found on the search page and in the app's For You Feed.
Announced by Instagram head Adam Mosseri, the development surfaces a month after the Twitter-like microblogging site began testing the feature with select users in the US.
Mosseri said that the company view the wider availability of the feature as “an easy way to see what others are talking about on Threads.”

Bearing resemblance with the trending feature on X, formerly Twitter, the "trending now" feature will enable users to stay tuned with the latest hot topics permeating on the social media platform.
As of now, the platform does not have a real-time sense of community, however, hopes soared a little with its rollout, considering that it has the potential of acquainting people of what's the current talk of the valley apart from what they come across on their feeds.
Meta, the social network's parent company, earlier revealed that trending topics are picked by Meta’s AI systems and mostly based on the most interacted stuff on Threads. Meta's AI system does so in view of the factors such as how many users are talking about a specific topic and how engaging it has become among other users on the same topic.
The functionality is a little restricted on Threads as it only shows five popular topics at a time, contrary to multiple trending topics displayed on X . It's possible that Threads might have limited the number of popular topics for spamming and safety concerns.
While the company has stated that Threads would not actively promote political content, many of the topics that frequently trend on the platform are political in nature. During President Biden's State of the Union address earlier this month, Threads' popular topics were mostly related to political discussions.
