Toyota on Saturday dropped big hints about bringing back some of its most iconic sports cars, like the Celica, MR2, and Supra.

These details came from a fun anime-style show called Grip, where a whiteboard in one scene listed model names like Supra Mk6, Celica Mk8, and MR2 Mk4.

This has created excitement for car lovers, especially fans of Toyota’s performance-focused Gazoo Racing (GR) lineup.

Toyota’s GR lineup already includes the Supra, GR86, and GR Yaris, which all focus on high performance. If Celica and MR2 return, they will likely join the GR family as well.

An exciting development is the FT-Se concept, shown last year, which could lead to a new, all-electric MR2. This concept has a low, sleek design and uses Toyota’s advanced battery technology to achieve a style similar to the original MR2.

The Celica has a long history, dating back to 1971 and running until 2006. Toyota’s Chairman, Akio Toyoda, has shown interest in bringing it back, although it’s unclear where it would fit alongside the GR86 in Toyota’s lineup.

A new Supra could also be on the way, as the current model first came out in 2019. The GR86, launched in 2022, might get an update with hybrid technology, including a turbocharged engine similar to that of the GR Yaris.

Toyota’s GR GT3 supercar, first seen in 2022, shows the brand’s push for performance cars. This expansion would fulfil Toyota’s dream of reuniting the “three brothers," the Celica, MR2, and Supra, in Toyota’s lineup.
