They say that imitation is the highest form of flattery, and Project Mugen, the upcoming gacha game for PS5 and PS4 by Netease's subsidiary Naked Rain, is definitely putting that theory to the test. Fans have picked up on similarities between its traversal gameplay and Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man games. In all fairness, the resemblance is undeniable.

In reality, Project Mugen appears to draw inspiration from a range of sources. It incorporates vehicular traversal reminiscent of Grand Theft Auto, character action combat akin to Genshin Impact, and even engages in over-the-shoulder third-person shooter encounters.

This amalgamation isn't necessarily a negative thing — if it can blend these diverse components seamlessly, it holds the potential for an enjoyable gameplay experience.

However, as always, the ultimate judgment lies in the execution. While Project Mugen shows promise in its introductory trailer, it needs to demonstrate its ability to deliver before it can earn acclaim.
