Mixed-reality headsets have become the new norm in the sphere of immersive and lifelike entertainment. This trend seems to have given rise to an entirely different breed of fans with the launch of Vision Pro last year.

Endorsed more like a spatial computer than a VR headset, Apple's Vision Pro is on the verge of receiving its first-ever major software update, with industry insiders claiming it to be even more productive than before and becoming the best platform for getting things done.

But the accomplishment of this feat relies majorly on the two key features that will morph the Vision Pro into a more potent and efficient version of itself.

Key features of visionOS 2

  • Updated Mac Virtual Display
  • Proper keyboard and mouse support

Updated Mac Virtual Display

Firstly, this will be achieved by an update to the Mac Virtual Display, one of the best productivity features on Vision Pro, functioning as a Mac display. The pre-existing feature will embrace two key enhancements. First is expected to be an ultra-wide mode that delivers pixel richness of two 4K monitors onto the screen.

Meanwhile, the second is said to be a higher display (HD) resolution, a move undertaken to set aside resolution-led backlash.

Proper keyboard and mouse support

The intangible UI of the Vision Pro can be navigated with eye and hand movements, but the support for a proper keyboard and mouse can make simplify this experience, especially for computing-related tasks.

The current version of visionOS seamlessly supports Bluetooth keyboards, but the downside is that it's a bit complex to find them for they're submerged into the gadget's immersive world.

To set this issue aside, visionOS 2 is rumoured to bring physical keyboards supported in any environment in vivid forms. Likewise, the so-far-absent mouse support would now be included to let users connect their favourite external mice.

vision OS 2 release date

visionOS 2 is set to be released to the public in September 2024. The update includes several enhancements such as Mac Virtual Display upgrades, immersive experiences, gaming support, and improved functionality for the Messages and Mindfulness apps.
