In the wake of slowed-down internet and VPN bans encompassing the digital realm of Pakistan, the demand for virtual private networks (VPNs) has risen over three times across the country.
The estimation was made by Top10VPN, an independent VPN monitoring website, claiming that VPN demand in Pakistan was recorded 102% higher on November 25 compared to the regular average during the preceding 28 days.
Surprisingly, the VPN demand further spiked by 213% the following day, according to the VPN reviewer.
The dramatic surge comes at a time when authorities have fastened curbs on all social media platforms as well as other channels of communication owing to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf rally taking place in the Punjab region of the country.
Major social media platforms including WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook were among the most disrupted services across Pakistan, as per data showed by Downdetector.com, an outage tracking website.
The continued distortion in accessing digital means of communication has drawn public ire on a massive scale, and adding to the general public's woes is the disregard of authorities for confirming until when this disruption will come to a halt.
