If you happen to be a proficient smartwatch fanatic eager to get his hands — or get on his hands — on the newest iteration of the Galaxy Watch series, the Galaxy Watch 7, then you better carry out the cost and benefit analysis before making the actual purchase.
Although the latest Samsung smartwatch is to run on the latest weaOS 5 operating system, it may disappoint the wearer with a lack of some of the most iconic (although a bit older) watch faces he may be expecting due to the upgraded hardware.
The latest Wear OS 5 is set to support watch faces designed in line with the Watch Face Format (WFF). However, Google says that with Wear OS 5, "you’ll only have access to watch faces that have met our performance and quality standards."

This acknowledgement indicates that WFF has been made a prerequisite standard for watch faces being developed for the latest Wear OS update.
Elaborating on its decision, Google also considers WFF as the bare minimum quality standard all the Wear OS apps have to abide by.
This mandatory criterion, as per Google, was enacted to "ensure the best possible experience for our users, we're focusing on watch faces that meet these quality standards."
Given that, people having an older watch face — which was not designed as per WFF standards — on a non-WearOS5 smartwatch will not be able to see it on the newer models running on Wear OS 5.
