WhatsApp is introducing a feature aimed at enhancing account verification. The passkey feature is currently being made available to select beta testers who update to the latest version of the TestFlight app.
The passkey feature is intended to offer users an additional layer of security for accessing the accounts. While this feature was initially rolled out to Android beta testers with the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.20.4 update, iOS users were unable to access it due to its absence on the iOS platform. However, with the latest WhatsApp beta update now available on the TestFlight app, WhatsApp is finally introducing the option to configure a passkey.
According to WAbetainfo, some beta testers can now experiment with configuring a passkey for their WhatsApp account. This feature is optional, allowing users to enable it based on their preferences. Users can configure a passkey for added convenience and revoke access at any time through the app settings.

Once configured, the passkey will be automatically stored in the iCloud Keychain, enabling users to log into WhatsApp using their device passcode or biometric authentication instead of the traditional 6-digit code. Furthermore, users retain the option to authenticate using the 6-digit code in situations where the passkey is not available, such as when logging into WhatsApp on a different device.
The feature enhances both the security and convenience of user accounts by introducing an alternative authentication method. By eliminating the need for a 6-digit code each time users access their accounts, this feature streamlines the login process, saving time and effort.
The passkey feature for account verification is currently accessible to select beta testers who update to the latest version of WhatsApp beta for iOS from the TestFlight app. It is expected to roll out to more users in the coming weeks.
