WhatsApp is developing a new message translation feature to help users communicate across languages.
Currently in beta testing for Android (version 2.24.26.9), this innovative feature enables the automatic translation of chat messages and channel updates directly within the app.
This development is part of the Meta-owned platform’s ongoing effort to enhance its user experience without compromising security.
Message translation feature on WhatsApp
To maintain user privacy and end-to-end encryption, WhatsApp messages’ translations will be processed locally on the user's device and the platform will not be sharing data with third-party services or WhatsApp's servers.
Additionally, to support offline translations, WhatsApp users can download language packs in advance.
Once these packs are installed, the translations will be processed locally, allowing users to read messages in different languages even without an active internet connection.
While these translations are intended to facilitate communication, they might not be entirely accurate due to potential errors in offline processing.
The feature is still under development and will be rolled out to a broader audience in future updates.
Additionally, WhatsApp has also introduced a new feature for quick replies to voice messages. The new button, which appears only when a voice message is played, allows users to instantly record and send voice replies.
