This feature is currently available to the beta users of Android. According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp’s beta Android 2.24.23.13 will allow the beta testers of WhatsApp to view media shared with them inside the chatbox.
Reverse image search on WhatsApp
- Install the latest version of the WhatsApp beta.
- Open the shared image.
- Tap the triple-dotted menu option on the top right.
- Then choose a search on the web.
- Then a dialogue box will appear and select the search option.
The new image look-up feature of WhatsApp for Android is pretty powerful as it can help users to determine if a certain piece of image is fake or not, subsequently controlling the spread of misinformation.
Meta’s new feature is currently available for a few beta testers, but later on, it will be rolling out to all users. It relies on Google’s reverse image searching functionality, while it is worth mentioning that the image would not be in the access to Google for reverse checking until the user allows it.
