WhatsApp is developing a major feature that would let you block messages from unknown accounts. The Meta-owned popular messaging app is working on security tools, improving the platform to a greater extent, and offering a safer experience to users.

The feature was noticed in the Android beta 2.24.17.24 version, WhatsApp is checking a new “block texts from unknown accounts” feature. The recent build is released to some beta testers through the Google Play Beta Program.

How block texts from unknown accounts feature works

The instant messaging platform already has a ‘block’ feature, which allows you to restrict your nosey contacts. But this feature only works on those users whose contacts are saved on your phone. Now WhatsApp is set to introduce a new tool called “Block unknown account messages” for a safer experience.

The feature in the advanced settings section reads: “To protect your account and improve device performance, WhatsApp would block texts from unknown accounts if they exceed a certain volume.”

It’s indicated that the feature would block messages from anonymous accounts as soon as they exceed certain numbers. The feature further enhance the app’s performance by reducing spam or unwanted texts.

This would eventually reduce the amount of data WhatsApp requires to process messages. By filtering out texts, the new block feature would protect your account from phishing. The update is currently to beta testers but would reach general consumers soon.
