Elon Musk's X (formerly Twitter) has introduced Aurora, a new image generator for Musk's artificial intelligence (AI) model Grok.

According to reports, this new feature was made available on Saturday for some time but later disappeared for many users.

This development comes after X made Grok free for all users. Earlier, it was available for a $8-per-month Premium subscription. Now users can send up to 10 messages to Grok every two hours and generate up to 3 daily images.

New image generator on X

Taking to X on Saturday, employees at xAI, a Musk-owned AI startup which developed Grok and many other AI-powered features for the microblogging platform, announced Aurora.

Similar to the image generator Flux introduced to Grok earlier in October, Aurora produces images with few restrictions but are more photorealistic.

The new app is said to be accessible through the Grok tab on X’s mobile apps and the web. In addition to it, the image generator can generate images of public figures and copyrighted characters such as Mickey Mouse.

Aurora's detailed generations are a notable improvement from Grok's Flux model and appear to rival the output of other models such as OpenAI's DALL-E 3.

While its capabilities are impressive, many users have reported images with objects blending unnaturally and people with missing fingers, a common challenge found on every other image generator.
