Xiaomi 15 might introduce several advancements compared to its predecessor. The next generation of Xiaomi's flagship lineup, including the vanilla Xiaomi 15, Xiaomi 15 Pro, and Xiaomi 15 Ultra, could feature an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, replacing the optical fingerprint scanner seen in the previous model.
Another report suggested that the smartphone series could be powered by the yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset.
Gadgets360, citing tipster Digital Chat Station, reported that Xiaomi is developing a new fingerprint scanner technology for the Xiaomi 15 series. This development suggests the use of an in-display ultrasonic sensor. The leak also claimed that Xiaomi might use fingerprint technology by Goodix, which is cheaper than compared to sensors by Qualcomm.
Ultrasonic fingerprint sensors operate by transmitting ultrasonic pulses of sound waves to humans that are inaudible. These waves interact with the finger and return with collected information, matching the fingerprint's pattern to recognise the user.
This technology offers several advantages over optical fingerprint sensors. It can scan oily or wet fingers more effectively and is considered more secure due to its three-dimensional scanning capability. Notably, this technology is currently found in select premium smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S24 series.

An earlier report also hinted that the Xiaomi 15 series could be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset, which is not announced yet. The processor might be unveiled in October 2024, considering the debut of the Xiaomi 14 series in China in the same month last year. This suggests that the Xiaomi 15 series could be among the first devices powered by this chip.
Furthermore, a tipster shared details about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC on X (formerly Twitter). The leak suggests that the chipset could boast a maximum clock speed of 4GHz, a significant improvement over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip's 3.3GHz clock speed. Additionally, it is anticipated to be paired with the Adreno 830 GPU.
