Xiaomi, one of the leading smartphone makers in the world, has recently unveiled its new operating system called HyperOS. HyperOS is designed to connect personal devices, cars and smart home devices to Xiaomi’s smart ecosystem. It supports more than 200 products from the Chinese company, ranging from Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO smartwatches and smartphones to electric cars.
HyperOS was officially announced along with the new Xiaomi 14 flagship in late 2023. The official release date for HyperOS was 26 October 2023. The original name of the operating system for the Chinese market is SurgeOS. HyperOS is the name of the global version. HyperOS Global will start appearing on the company’s devices in the first quarter of 2024, including in India.
There will be two phases of updates: December 2023 to January 2024 – firmware exclusive to users in China. Starting in the first quarter of 2024, global versions of HyperOS will be gradually released for supported phone and tablet models.
HyperOS device update list
HyperOS is already pre-installed on Xiaomi 14 series smartphones, Xiaomi Watch S3 smartwatch, Xiaomi TV S Pro 85″ MiniLED and other devices. According to official information from the presentation of the new system, from the beginning of December 2023 to the end of January 2024, updates to HyperOS will receive:
- Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 and MIX Fold 3, Xiaomi 13, 13 Pro, 13 Ultra.
- Xiaomi Pad 6, Pad 6 Max 14, Pad 6 Pro.
- Redmi K60, K60 Extreme Edition, K60 Pro.
- Xiaomi TV S Pro 65 Mini LED, Xiaomi TV S Pro 75 Mini LED, Xiaomi TV S Pro 85 Mini LED.
- Xiaomi Smart Camera 3 Pro PTZ version IP.
- Xiaomi Sound.
- Xiaomi Watch S3.
For the global market, the following devices are expected to receive HyperOS updates in the first quarter of 2024:
- Xiaomi 13 Ultra, Xiaomi 13 Pro, Xiaomi 13, Xiaomi 13 Lite.
- Xiaomi MIX Fold 2, Xiaomi MIX Fold 3.
- Xiaomi Pad 6, Pad 6 Max 14, Pad 6 Pro.

- Redmi 11 Prime / 5G, Redmi 12, 12 5G, 12C.

HyperOS features
HyperOS is based on the Android Open Source Project and offers a number of features that aim to enhance the user experience and performance of Xiaomi devices. Some of the main features of HyperOS are:
- Photon Engine: This is a new rendering engine that improves the smoothness, responsiveness and stability of the system. It uses advanced technologies such as adaptive frame rate, dynamic memory allocation, intelligent scheduling and more to optimise the system resources and reduce power consumption. The Photon Engine also supports a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ display for a better visual experience.
- Hyper Connect: This is a feature that allows users to seamlessly connect and control their Xiaomi devices across different platforms and scenarios. Users can easily switch between devices, transfer files, mirror screens, share data and more with just a few taps. Hyper Connect also supports wireless projection, multi-screen collaboration, smart home integration and more.
- Hyper Vision: This is a feature that enhances the camera performance and capabilities of Xiaomi devices. It uses artificial intelligence, computational photography and Leica optics to deliver stunning photos and videos. Hyper Vision also supports 8K video recording, 108-megapixel resolution, 10x optical zoom, night mode, portrait mode, macro mode and more.
- Hyper Security: This is a feature that ensures the privacy and security of Xiaomi users. It uses encryption, sandboxing, anti-virus, anti-theft and other technologies to protect the user data and device from malicious attacks. Hyper Security also supports face unlock, fingerprint unlock, app lock, private space and more.
- Hyper Assistant: This is a feature that provides a smart and personalized assistant for Xiaomi users. It uses natural language processing, voice recognition, machine learning and other technologies to understand the user needs and preferences. Hyper Assistant also supports voice commands, smart suggestions, reminders, weather, news, calendar and more.
